Four Rabbit, The Zero Waste Pioneer

Updated: Mar 24, 2019

Zero Waste fashion has given us a glimpse into the future of fashion. Within the last few years a handful of Zero Waste companies have made waves in bringing to light the burden fashion has put on our environment. The fashion industry is, in short, pretty dirty; starting with chemically treated cotton, to chemical dyes, to unused fabrics Without much strategic thinking, most of the fabric scraps end up in landfills and leave our waters filled with their toxic dyes. There aren’t many recycling outlets for throwing away these fabrics. More often than not, after we receive our new clothes, we find ourselves soon throwing them into the trash, which will end up in a landfill. Each year Americans throw out 25 billion pounds of textiles, 82 pounds per person, and that’s 100% TOO MUCH. Zero Waste fashion has decided to change the way we view clothes on a fundamental level. No longer looking at clothes as disposable, these companies creatively design them to be an investment.

Four Rabbit is a brand that creates their pieces around their traveling customer’s wants and needs. Deriving their designs from the quote, “Look good getting lost”, Four Rabbit has strategically infused three main elements into their designs: Environment, Functionality, and Style. These three elements are evident in every single item.

The Cry Baby scarf (seen in the picture above) is an exceptionally versatile scarf. Hand painted with all natural dyes, the main dye is Himalayan rhubarb to give it that golden rosy hue. The other natural dyes in the scarf create a stellar pallet that go with just about any outfit you’re wearing. When I first received the Cry Baby Scarf, I noticed the shape and size of the scarf–One big square of 100% cotton. After playing around with different ways of folding it, I realized the square shape provided endless style possibilities.

Four Rabbit has taken the Zero Waste world by storm with their Tsunami Jacket. It has everything you didn’t know you needed in a jacket. With functionality at its core, this is an ideal travel jacket. Pockets on pockets on zippers on zippers and water resistant on water resistant, Four Rabbit thought of EVERYTHING. If you don’t believe me check them out!!
